The Louis L. Redding City/County Building is a prominent government facility in Wilmington, Delaware, named after civil rights attorney Louis L. Redding. Water Quality Laboratory

The Water Quality Lab is a State-certified lab for bacteriological and total organic carbon analysis. The lab ensures safe drinking water by monitoring and analyzing water samples to ensure drinking water regulations are met. Over the years, technological advancements have enhanced its capabilities, enabling it to adapt to evolving regulatory standards and emerging contaminants. In the early 2000s, the historic Water Works Café underwent renovations to become the new Waterworks Center. Annually, the lab collects over 30,000 water samples from the water treatment plants, the distribution system, and customers.

Porter Filter Plant (Water)

The Porter Filter Plant, built in the mid-20th century, is a vital part of Wilmington's water supply system. It utilizes slow sand filtration technology to purify water from the Brandywine Creek and Hoopes Reservoir, helping to ensure the City has clean and safe drinking water. Over time, Porter has undergone expansions and modernizations to meet the growing demand for water and to improve its efficiency. Today, Porter can treat up to 36 million gallons of water per day, supplying the entire City.

Brandywine Filter Plant (Water)

The Brandywine Filter Plant has a rich history, dating back to the early 20th century. Originally constructed to enhance the quality of the City's water, the plant underwent modernizations in 2012, becoming Delaware’s first membrane filtration plant. Today, Brandywine serves as the City’s peaking plant and can produce up to 14 million gallons of water per day.

Hoopes Reservoir

Hoopes Reservoir, located in Wilmington, Delaware, is a key component of the City's water supply infrastructure. Constructed in the early 20th century, Hoopes Reservoir holds up to 2.2 billion gallons of water and serves as a vital storage facility for potable water, ensuring a reliable backup water supply for the City. The Wilmington Renewable Energy Biosolids Facility is a state-of-the-art facility in Delaware dedicated to sustainable waste management. As part of wastewater treatment, the facility utilizes advanced technologies to process biosolids, transforming them into renewable energy sources such as biogas and fertilizer. By harnessing biogas through anaerobic digestion, the facility generates clean energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
